According to recent studies, the demand for high quality, bio honey is rapidly increasing. The Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) signed with the EU in 2014, formed the basis to allow Georgia to export honey to the EU market after complying with all necessary standards. Jara honey, with its history, production in a bio diverse environment and natural honeycomb has great potential to meet bio certification requirements as well as compete in the international market as a unique niche product.
With the assistance and guidance of the JBA, in 2020 and in a country first, twenty-four Jara beekeepers in Ajara received Bio certification, including the Jara apiary in the Goderdzi Alpine Garden.
